Kenya

If you have watched the movies, read the books, and have literally dreamed of Africa, Kenya is the classic ‘Out of Africa’ we all imagine. The land of rolling plains and open savannah, effortlessly stylish camps and lodges, spectacular wildlife, absorbing characters, and wonderfully authentic tribes. Evocative of a romantic by-gone era, Kenya continues to capture the hearts of visitors.

Why We Love It

Iconic parks like the Masai Mara have put Kenya on the map, renowned for its spectacular wildebeest migration. To truly escape the well-trodden path and see Kenya’s full glory, we recommend combining time in the Northern part of the country and on the coast.

Wild and remote, areas like the vast Laikipia plateau and the Matthews Range offer an authentic African experience. You can enjoy conservation areas unrestricted by national park rules, allowing for activities like walking, camel, and horse riding safaris, scenic helicopter trips, and even camping under the stars.

After a thrilling safari, relax on the Indian Ocean coastline, or explore the historic island of Lamu. Kenya’s own coastline makes it an ideal bush and beach destination.

Useful Information

How to Get Around
Due to the remoteness of most camps and lodges, flying is usually recommended, either via scheduled or private charters. Road transfers are possible in some northern areas, and for a truly unique experience, consider a 3-5 night helicopter safari.

How to Get There
Direct flights are available from London to Nairobi, or via Amsterdam. If coming from the US, you can also fly via Johannesburg.

Is it for You?
Kenya is ideal for honeymooners, families of all ages (low-risk malaria areas), couples, and adventure seekers. The country also offers excellent riding safaris.

When is Best?
The best time for safari in Kenya is between rainy seasons—April to June and November. For the migration, July to September are the prime months. The coast is usually pleasant year-round, except from mid-April to June when many coastal properties close.

What Should I Combine it With?
Kenya works well on its own due to its safari and beach options. For an extended safari, it combines easily with Rwanda (gorillas) or Tanzania. As for coastal add-ons, Kenya pairs well with Zanzibar, Mozambique, the Seychelles, or even Madagascar’s beaches.
