There are a number of community lease concessions available in Zimbabwe, which allow an investor to develop a lodge or camp. One opportunity is situated near the Western boundary of the Chamabondo vlei within the bounds of the Zambezi National Park.
The Chamabondo area, locally known as a “vlei” is made up of low-lying open flat grassland approximately twenty kilometres in length with varying degrees of width. These are in fact ancient river systems now set in Kalahari sandveld and bounded predominantly by Teak Woodland.
The Vlei runs mainly West/East and one end of it is a few kilometres South of Victoria Falls.
The lease site is approximately thirty (30) km from Victoria Falls and the driving time varies between 30 minutes and an hour depending on which route is used.
Well known for excellent game viewing opportunities, Chamabondo is home to Africa`s big four, Elephant and Buffalo occur in huge numbers at certain times of the year. Some of the “plains game” and antelope species resident in the area are Giraffe, Eland, Kudu, Waterbuck, Sable, Wilderbeast, Zebra, Impala, warthog and duiker.
All the major predators occur on the open plains, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Hyena, Painted Dog, Jackal and smaller cats can be seen from time to time.
The area is also a birders' paradise and lies within the largest vulture breeding colony in Africa. Most of the birds of prey found in Zimbabwe can be found here. The waterholes attract many different waders and waterfowl and the huge Kori Bustards and Ground Hornbills are very common walking the open grasslands.
